RESONATE / SUPPORT
Support
Getting started with Resonate.
Your first composition
Resonate requires iOS 17 or later. Motion recording needs a physical iPhone, and tactile playback requires a device that supports Core Haptics.
- Play the included First light example to explore the timeline and tracks.
- Open the session menu and choose New session to start a composition. Export your current work first if you want to keep an AHAP copy.
- Select a track and position the playhead where you want to record.
- Tap Record, move your iPhone, then stop. Recording replaces the selected track’s recorded interval while keeping material outside it.
- Add more tracks, adjust their levels, and play back the mix. Use loop to repeat it.
Recording gestures
Continuous tracks
Tilt your iPhone to change intensity and roll it to change sharpness. Use the live meters as a guide. Continuous tracks are suited to sustained vibrations and gradual changes.
Transient tracks
Use a short flick to record a tap. The strength of the movement determines intensity; roll controls sharpness. Let the phone settle between taps.
Track types are fixed when you create them. Add a new track to use a different type.
Saving and exporting
The current editable session saves automatically on your device. A composition can contain multiple tracks and up to 60 seconds of recorded motion. Resonate currently keeps one editable session, rather than a library of projects.
Tap Export to save the audible mix as an .ahap file. Muted tracks and tracks excluded by solo are left out. Choose the destination in the system file picker.
An AHAP export is a playback pattern, not a backup of the editable multitrack session. Starting a new session or loading the example replaces the current session. The session menu provides one-level undo for supported edits while the app is open.
Troubleshooting
I can’t feel playback.
Use a physical iPhone that supports Core Haptics. Check that your composition contains recorded events, the tracks you want to hear are not muted, and their levels are above zero. The iOS Simulator can preview the timeline and export, but cannot produce physical haptics.
Motion isn’t recording.
Recording requires a physical iPhone with device motion available. Keep Resonate in the foreground and select a track before recording. Check any motion-access prompt or error shown by iOS. For transient tracks, let the phone settle between flicks.
Playback or recording stopped.
Resonate stops playback and recording when it leaves the foreground. Recording also stops at the 60-second limit. Return to the app and start again from the position you want.
I can’t change a track.
Stop recording or playback before editing track settings. Some controls are locked during capture and playback.
I can’t find an exported file.
Look in the location you selected in the system file picker. Exported files use the session name and the .ahap extension. Check your chosen file provider if you saved outside On My iPhone.
